Embraer has surprised with a revolutionary Kyoto Airship design concept for the Lineage 1000E, featuring expansive glass that floods the luxurious cabin with natural light and offers spectacular panoramic views from every seating position.
The Kyoto Airship design was inspired by a “Japanese challenge” – a hypothetical Japanese customer who might want to sit on the floor instead of a traditional seat. The unique design offers passengers an experience that is similar to traveling on a yacht, rethinking convention with door-sized windows and skylights that arc from the floor to the ceiling.
Jay Beever, Embraer Executive Jets’ Senior Vice President of Interior Design addressed the challenge and collaborated with yacht interior designer Patrick Knowles and Boat International. “The challenge was to prove we could provide a similar design experience to the one you would get when designing a yacht. Designing a motoryacht often allows the owner to customize to the ultimate degree. We feel we can offer a similar experience with the Kyoto airship”.
The team drew upon the technical specifications of a previous “Brazilian Government” ERJ-145 regional jet with large observer windows; I’m reading that as “military jet”.
The usual reasons for small windows are structural integrity of the aircraft wall and excessive weight of hardened glass. However, the large bodywork of the Lineage 1000E means that the large Kyoto window only occupies the space for a normal aircraft door without compromising structural integrity.
With five cabin zones that can be configured into a multi-cabin lounge, dining area and even a master suite complete with queen-size bed and walk-in shower, you can design your ultimate home away from home.
