Tucked away in the heart of Columbus Circle, is the Mandarin Oriental New York, the ultimate in luxury accommodations. Inside, a hidden gem, the Spa at Mandarin Oriental boasts balancing and restoration for the mind and body. Many spas in New York City make this claim, however, the Spa at Mandarin Oriental has one critical component that is a rarity in New York City, and that is space. The Spa boasts six treatment rooms with private showers, a VIP Suite, a Tea Lounge, a Yoga Suite and my most favorite part, separate men’s and women’s heat experience rooms.
The Heat Room offers amenities unsurpassed by any Spa I have been to in New York City.
This experience is one that is encouraged for you to take by the Spa Technicians, and clients are urged to arrive one hour prior to service to allow for time for what I can only describe as the biggest and best shock I have had in quite some time.
The Amethyst Crystal Steam Room is stunning and healing as amethyst is known to help physical ailments and assist in energy and chakra balancing. The Global Healing Center tells us that amethyst offers certain benefits for body detoxification and this most rare form of quartz has been used to assist in holistic treatment of sleep disorders. Steam rooms alone, will detoxify the body, stimulate the metabolism and offer relaxation benefits. Combined with the holistic healing powers of amethyst, a few minutes in this room will help you feel renewed before you have even experienced your spa service.
After twenty minutes in the steam room, I headed to the Vitality Pool. I had never been in one before and really did not know what to expect. I was quickly hooked as water at 100°F (37.8°C) pulsates from all angles, giving you a massage while immersed in a metal recliner chair supporting every contour of your body to help target sore muscles. These pools are excellent to promote circulation. Please note, you are not to stay in the tub longer than 20 minutes.
The spa offers a variety of facials and massages, and I was fortunate to have had the Bio Radiance Facial (Monday-Wednesday USD $350, Thursday-Sunday $365) This was one hour and twenty minutes of pure indulgence beginning with a skin analysis where an aesthetician determined that my skin could use some hydration and a little cleaning. Using delicious fragrances of organic botanical products, (they use ESPA) some steam, extractions and much needed lymphatic drainage facial massage, I can say without question, my skin had never looked better than post treatment.
The Facial was fantastic, but more memorable was the Heat Experience prior to my service.
Should you find yourself staying at the Mandarin Oriental in New York, or one of their many other locations around the world, explore the spa offerings and take some time for yourself. It is well worth the time.
