Football is back baby! I don’t think there’s anything else in the world that I love and hate more than NFL football. I love my Giants who can be infuriating to watch and I can’t stand all the bullshit that is the NFL making the game “safer” for it’s players. When they ruined the kick off a few years ago I became extremely disappointed. Yeah let’s move the ball up so far that he can pretty much kick the ball into the bleachers before we go to 8 hours of commercials. I don’t know about you but I want see these remarkable physical specimens actually play the game. I love football. It’s a great sport and I feel it’s being ruined. Anyhow…
Dan – the guitar player in my band – and I were looking for a place to watch the game. There’s only one spot in town where I watch my Giants and they never lose: Party Fowl, on the corner of 8th and Division street. I’ve been there a number of times and every time I’m there to cheer on Big Blue: we win.
Dan and I head for the back bar, get a primo seat in front of one of the huge screens and pick up the menu. Party Fowl is known for their hot chicken and within seconds, I know exactly what I want. Aside from wings, there’s only one other food that I love eating while watching a game.. Nachos. So their hot chicken nachos are a no-brainer!
The bartender, Allison, was very aware that we were going to be there for a while and my plate was “YUGE”. The Hot Chicken Nachos consist of bacon-fried tortilla chips, hot chicken (I got “Nashville Hot” because I apparently hate myself), white beans, cheese, avocado, jalapeños, green onions, pico de gallo, and sour cream. They don’t skimp on anything either. I’m pretty sure there was about a pound of chicken, a block of shredded cheese, 37 jalapeños, a pound of chips and an entire avocado. The only thing I would’ve changed is maybe slightly more sour cream because, god damn, that chicken was HOT! Which probably ended up being a good thing because it took me forever to finish. They lasted most of the game.
I did kind of bitch out though.. I had to put a bunch of the jalapeños aside… I just couldn’t take anymore heat! I think I had 10 glasses of diet coke and a beer throughout the whole thing to cool my mouth off. Don’t get me wrong, the chicken was incredible as always, but Good Lord they don’t mess around with the heat! There’s another level of heat that I’m honestly afraid to try.. it’s called “Poultrygeist“. I’m not messing with that. You know the chicken is hot when you kind of look forward to sour cream covered lettuce…
I loved every second of it. Sometimes with hot chicken, the sauce that gets poured over it lacks some saltiness. So for me, the tortilla chips were the perfect compliment and gave me what I was looking for. It’s under the appetizer section and clearly it’s meant to be shared, but that’d make for a much less interesting cheat meal.
All in all I got everything I went for. A satisfying meal at one of my favorite local restaurants and a beautiful Giants win over the Cowboys.
Until next time…

I LOVE FOOD! Right after college, I gained a lot of weight and hit a whopping 267 lbs. Terrified that I could hit 300 before I hit 30, I decided to take control of the foods I was eating and started taking the fitness thing more seriously. I keep a very strict diet, making sure I hit my macronutrients (proteins, fats and carbs) each day. I hit the gym six days-a-week.
But once a week, I cheat and treat myself. Food is one of my favorite things in life. This regime allows me to have my cheese-stuffed, deep-fried cake and eat it too. My column will focus on these indulgent treats.
