On January 9, 2017 at the upcoming North American International Auto Show “NAIAS” in Detroit, Audi will start off the new year with the premiere of its new Audi Q8 Concept.

From the 2 teaser pictures Audi has released, this new upscale premiere full-sized SUV will definitely turn heads in Detroit. [added additional pictures on Jan 9th below]

Marc Lichte, Audi’s Head of Design, says, “With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line.  Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige.  What’s more, we believe an important aspect of this showcar is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line.”

The intimidating front design incorporates a very wide stance and a menacing octagonal’ish grille.  Add in the large wheels (perhaps 22″ rims?) and tiny sports side mirrors, you have yourself a beautifully designed SUV coupé.  Audi says it’s supposed to have design influence reminiscent of its Ur-Quattro.  I’m not so sure… but I definitely see some Lamborghini design influence in these Q8 Concept sketches (Audi owns Lamborghini and Volkswagen owns Audi btw).

For years, many of us have asked Audi to bring something that’s more refreshing.  The new designed A4 practically still looked like its predecessor if you ask me.  This new Audi Q8 is the answer I think many SUV owners and lovers will seriously take a look at.  In Southern California, I don’t see as many Audi Q7’s on the roads anymore.  Mercedes and Range Rover definitely dominates this full-size category over here along with the up and coming Tesla Model X.

Perhaps this Q8 Concept will be Audi’s answer to the luxury full-sized SUV segment, of which it is definitely lagging.
