Poltrona Frau has upholstered the interiors of Ferrari cars since the 1980s.
The new chair is neither a car seat nor a pure piece of furniture or design.
In modern-speak, it’s a hybrid of two brands, blending automotive know-how from Ferrari and the La Dolce Vita culture of Poltrona Frau to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Ferrari. An office chair that captures the excitement, the speed of the driver’s seat, as well as the passion for racing.
How do you redesign an office chair that evokes the driving sensation without too much cliché?
The sports car cockpit is a place where the driver’s will to win combines in harmony with concentration, quick reflexes and intuition. In that space, the contact between the body and the seat begets sensations that help the driver to control the car….ergo “driving by the seat of your pants”.
The new office chair has an architectural and modular structure, and offers variant possibilities.
At launch, only two versions are available: the President and the Executive. Both have a reclining base and seat, integrated with two different backrests.
The President is the upper class model with a high backrest that is inspired by the ergonomics of competitive racing seats.
The Executive model, for the hoi polloi can adapt to all work contexts with its low and narrow backrest that ensures more freedom of movement.
The design of “Cockpit” is a synthesis of automotive cues with elements that reference the brand DNA. The materials are the same as those used in Ferrari cars viz. the external shell is moulded from carbon or alutex.
The central stripe on the seat channels the racing seats, while the swivel mechanism has the same design and mechanical elements as a Ferrari steering wheel.
Ferrari Design Centre team has chosen shades and finishes in leather inspired by the trim of the three Tailor-Made service lines, so you can personalise the office chair colours and materials as with the car: Scuderia, Classica and Inedita.
AlphaLuxe Notes: No prices are quoted because of the degree of customisation available but really, if you have to ask the price…….
