Spring in NYC
Springtime in the city means the natives leave their apartments and seek solace in the great outdoors. What New York City lacks in hiking and mountainous trails, it more than makes up for in gorgeous views of amazing architecture, developed over the history of New York. Whether you are seeking to view pre-war architecture, or some of the newer high rises the city has in development, the views will not disappoint.
Salon de Ning
If you live in NYC full time or are here for a visit, you must pay a trip to Salon de Ning at The Peninsula Hotel, in the posh shopping district that divides the East and West Side of Manhattan at 700 Fifth Avenue.
Following an elevator ride to the 23rd floor, guests are greeted with Venetian mirrors, Moroccan lanterns and handcarved Chinese screens.
The Salon de Ning is, after all, inspired by the fictional Madame Ning, a creative concept of eclectic and worldly elegance, a Shanghai socialite and avid traveler who collected objects from all over the world on “her” travels, where The Peninsula captures “her” essence in all aspects of the hotel décor across all Peninsula Hotels.
But back to the Salon de Ning: Upon a beautiful seat at a marble table, neutral sofa highlighted with red, yellow and orange pillows, and the option for an open umbrella to provide some shade, one can take a moment to enjoy the stillness, high above the chaos.
A peruse of the menu, that offers burgers and Caesar salad, also has lighter bites.
We recommend the ‘Tuna Sashimi with Avocado and Pickled Ginger Aioli’
or the ‘Center-Cut Smoked Salmon with Caviar and Chive Crème Fraiche’.
If you’re thirsty, you must try one of the Signature Cocktails.
AlphaLuxe recommends the “Gingertini” (Kettle Citroen, Canton Ginger Liqueur, White Cranberry Juice, Lime)
or the “Ning Sling” (2oz Hendricks Gin, 1oz Soho, Lychee Liqueur, Fresh Mint Leaves, 3oz Lychee and Passion Fruit Juice)
If wine by the glass is your preference, white options include Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis 2014 (France),
Tilia Pinot Gris 2014 (Vipava Valley, Slovenia) or the Keller Estate Chardonnay 2010 (California).
Should you prefer red, our choices are Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Malbec 2013 (Argentina)
or Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (California).
And hey! Don’t forget the rose: Domaine Sainte-Marie Vie Vité 2015.
Mind you, individual wine selections may change but the views stay; day or night, they are breathtaking.
Stop by, take a rest and respite. You will be glad that you did.
Happy Rooftop Time!
