Forever Iconic

Marilyn Monroe

The new Montblanc Muses Edition writing instruments celebrate one of the greatest style and cultural icons of the 20th century – Marilyn Monroe.

The Montblanc Muses Editions celebrate adulated stars, cultural icons, flawless beauties, and the 20th century’s most legendary muses. We’ve seen editions for legendary muses like Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and Princess Grace de Monaco.

Now, an ultimate symbol of glamour and femininity, Marilyn Monroe is the latest muse to join the edition. She appeared with charisma in more than 30 movies and captivated audiences with her music recordings. Who can forget “Happy Birthday, Mr President….” and “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.”

Above all, Monroe is widely recognized as the incarnation of sensual beauty, embodying a timelessly elegant, but provocative style that is still admired and emulated today.

The new Montblanc Muses Marilyn Monroe™ Special Edition includes a fountain pen ($920), ballpoint ($680) and rollerball ($785), taking inspiration from the glamorous life of a vulnerable and shy Norma Jeanne Mortenson, who lived her life in the limelight.

Every design detail of the Montblanc Muses Marilyn Monroe™ Special Edition was inspired by the film goddess’s signature style. The shape of the writing instrument evokes the 4-inch high heels that Marilyn Monroe liked.

The colour of the precious resin cap and barrel of the writing instrument reminds us of her special hue of custom blend lipstick. The rich red of the resin is paired with fittings coated in champagne gold.

The slanted cap top is decorated with the Montblanc emblem in champagne gold-coating. Marilyn wore few fashion accessories but was known for the single row of Akoya pearls given to her by 2nd husband Joe DiMaggio, to whom she was married for only 274 days; they spent their honeymoon in Japan. He had a half-dozen red roses delivered three times a week to her crypt for 20 years after her death.

A single pearl adorns the pen’s clip as a reference to the passionate yet brief all-American romance between the Hollywood goddess and the handsome baseball legend, one of the great love stories of the era.

Referencing the song “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.”, the cone of the Special Edition writing instrument is engraved with diamond shapes alongside Marilyn’s signature.

The Au585 champagne tone gold-coated nib of the fountain pen features an engraved portrait of the legendary actress. The traditionally rounded heart hole of the nib is shaped as an actual “heart” – a first in the Muses collection – to highlight the Monroe’s incomparable femininity.

AlphaLuxe Comment

This is certainly a distinctive collection of writing instrument as homage to an iconic and almost mythical figure of vivacious pulchritude. Available now at Montblanc boutiques, these vivid red treasures should find themselves in many a pair of stockings on Christmas Day this year.
