Celebrating 30 years of automobile passion and style
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Chopard’s relationship with the “corsa la più bella del mondo” (most beautiful race in the world).
Chopard [CLICK] celebrates this important landmark with a special limited, numbered and COSC-certified Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition. A 44mm diameter timepiece fabricated with passion, style and precision, will take to the road this year.
You can join in with either one of only 1,000 pieces in steel, and one of just 100 pieces in a bi-coloured version of 18-carat rose gold and steel.
Chopard celebrates 30 years as Mille Miglia Partner
Chopard has been a partner and official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia since 1988 although the legendary car rally was born 90 years ago.
From 16th to 19th May 2018, the race will see 440 teams cover a distance of one thousand miles (approximately 1,600 km) along a historical route from Brescia to Rome and back via Ferrara, Cervia, San Marino, Sienna, Parma and the famous Monza racetrack. This competition is reserved for historical models, of which, at least one example took part in one of the original Mille Miglia Races held between 1927 and 1956.
Loyal to a tradition that began in 1988, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele – Chopard co-president and a passionately dedicated classic car driver – is to compete in this latest race.
A family story
The Mille Miglia is a family story of passion, transmitted from generation to generation, for the Scheufeles. All the members of the family have taken part or attended the Mille Miglia under the Chopard flag.
This year, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele will be on the starting line under the watchful eye of his father, Karl Scheufele, who used to race with his son and instilled his own fascination and enthusiasm for classic cars. They were precious moments to transmit a passion for fine mechanics, whether of the horological or automobile variety.
The Mille Miglia is a demanding regularity rally. A trying race that requires constant attention and tolerates no imprecision. Such things are learnt by passing on knowhow, as well as teaching, sharing and accompanying, in order to help avoid potential pitfalls and lead the car to victory.
The Scheufeles have tasted success at the Mille Miglia with the oldest of classic cars like this Bentley.

For Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, the ties between horology and motoring are self-evident: “Lovers of fine cars often have a weakness for precious timepieces, and vice versa. Extreme precision and sporting elegance are important in both fields.”
Since his first participation in the Mille Miglia, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele has made a point of honour of being one of the drivers for 30 years. This year, he will be in a Porsche 550 Spyder RS A. The second Chopard team consists of Albert Carreras, son of world-famous tenor José Carreras, and his friend Jordi Pascual.

A stylish COSC-certified watch
Regularity rallies epitomise the quality of constancy. It is not just peak speeds that are measured, but also the drivers’ ability to maintain an allocated pace. A chronometer-certified chronograph movement, like the one powering the Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition, must maintain a variation in rate ranging from -4 to +6 seconds per day. Nothing is left to chance, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 42-hour power reserve to ensure the regularity of this self-winding watch.
The Mille Miglia collection now welcomes the Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition, developed in accordance with the same rigorous criteria as the race requires. The engine-turned dial, the details of the pushers and crown, as well as the sapphire crystal case-back bearing markings celebrating “30 years of passion”, all testify to the superlative degree of finishing lavished on this chronograph.

Since the beginning of sponsorship of the Mille Miglia Race in 1988, Chopard has presented each official race driver with a exclusive souvenirs such as watches, cuff-links and key-fobs.
From 1997, they started using mechanical self-winding movements for all Mille Miglia Race watch models and also marketed annual limited editions to the public. Prior to that, only competitors and guests had access to Mille Miglia Race watches.
The design motifs of the Chopard Mille Miglia 2018 Race Editions embody the “racing in style” vintage spirit cherished by Chopard. Comfort is essential yet never to the detriment of elegance.
The customs and conventions of the Mille Miglia: sport and performance, consistently governed by style and panache, call for a chronograph that makes the perfect transition between casual chic by day and elegant evening wear.
