In case you were wondering (and believe me that I did that for years), M.A.D stands for Mechanical Art Devices. It’s an offshoot business of the Maximilian Büsser empire. You may know Max from his horology business Maximilian Büsser & Friends [MB&F] that we reported before:
MB&F M.A.D. Gallery at Dubai Mall
MB&F M.A.D.Gallery Dubai has just moved to fancier premises in Dubai Mall.
First opened in January 2016 in the Alserkal Avenue creative district, the MB&F M.A.D.Gallery in Dubai was reported as a surprisingly rapid success but one would expect that since Max became a permanent resident, with his family, in that city state.
Local retail partner and operator of the gallery, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, decided with Max to up the stakes when the recent extension of the Dubai Mall offered the perfect opportunity to go up in the luxury retail world.
The Dubai gallery is MB&F’s third location, after Geneva in 2011 and Taipei in 2014. The galleries present mechanical and kinetic art from artists around the world, alongside MB&F Horological Machines and co-creations.
ASHEKMAN ‘Arab Golden Age V.2.0’ Exhibition
Currently, MB&F M.A.D. Gallery is hosting ‘Arab Golden Age V.2.0’, the official debut of Lebanese twin brothers and artists; ASHEKMAN, into the world of mechanical and kinetic art. Inspired by the Arab Golden Age between the 8th and 13th century, ASHEKMAN unveils a collection of limited edition metal sculptures representing the evolution of human civilization.
Started in Beirut city in 2004, by identical twin brothers Omar & Mohamed Kabbani, ASHEKMAN is an Arabic street art crew specialized in Arabic graffiti and calligraffiti inspired by the Lebanese civil war graffiti, which first emerged during the 1980s and 1990s.
MB&F products always had strong appeal in East Asia and now the Middle East has taken up the trend. In a world riven with economic volatility, Dubai has emerged as a haven for luxury consumerism.
