Holiday Beauty Survival Guide
The Holidays are here and chances are you are spread even thinner than usual. End-of-year work demands, family or social obligations and endless hours in search of the “perfect gift” can make “the most wonderful time of the year,” feel the most stressful too.
There is nothing quite like being overwhelmed to make a person ditch the beauty routine before all else, and as a result, your skin may seem dull, tired or lifeless; maybe even a combination of all the above.
Do not worry, we have you with the five beauty products to get you through the Holiday Season….
Before you let one more moment of neglecting your beauty regime pass, let’s discuss:
1. Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate $73
A botanically based facial oil designed for all skin types to revitalize the signs of skin fatigue. I am cautious of stating that a product will be effective on all skin types, but in the case of face oil, it is true. While some resist oil on their skin, it will hydrate dry skin, or keep oily skin clean (“like treats like”).
Depending on your skin type you will want to gauge the frequency of morning use (once per week for oily, possibly reactive skin and up to daily for very dry, dehydrated skin.)
The blend of Ginger Root, Sunflower Oil and Tamanu Oil will help protect the skin from free radicals and strengthen the skin protective barrier while providing a dewy, hydrated appearance.
I use two drops in the morning before I apply my foundation and them I’m asked if I “airbrush” at home.
Um, no way do I have time for that.
This is my secret.
2. Sol de Janeiro Cupuacu Brazilian Kiss $18
The only person who can get away with his lips hurting “real bad” is Napoleon Dynamite. Chapped, weathered lips are not a good look. This mixture of Cupuacu, Acai and Coconut Oil makes lips feel soft and hydrated without the greasy residue. The hydration is long lasting and passed the “Water and Coffee Test.”
Note, you can also use this on those pesky hang nails and cuticles for some on-the-go TLC between manicures.
Brazilian Kiss also makes an excellent base for any lip stain, stick or gloss.
The smell is fabulous, which is a good thing, since it is so close to your nose.
Always keep this in your bag or pocket.
3. La Mer Miracle Broth™ $120
“the soft fluid long wear foundation broad spectrum SPF 20”
Lightweight, hydrating and long wearing, the 21 shades available are free of parabens, phthalates and sulfates.
SPF 20 will protect your skin from the sun (we still need that in the winter) and the La Mer Miracle Broth™ treats your skin with the anti-aging benefit that is the raison d’être of this line.
In the Winter, ditch the bronzing powder and purchase a shade darker than your usual color. Blend the foundation in your skin with a foundation-brush and build your contouring with an extra layer of application for a ‘dew-ier’ appearance.
4. LAPCOS Collagen Lifting Sleeping Cream $38
Some nights require a little more work from your products than your nightly moisturizer can provide and that is where this ‘Cream’, that is really a mask, enters your regimen.
Recommended for Normal and Dry skin and designed to lift and support the facial contours while creating firmer skin, a thin layer before bed will moisturize, nourish and brighten. To remove in the morning, simply cleanse the skin with warm water. Use once or twice a week to revitalize.
5. Olivia Giacobetti En Passant Editions De Parfums Frederic Malle $280
What Holiday Season is complete without a ‘boss’ fragrance to accompany your radiant self?
Inspired by the scent of spring gardens, this scent combines orange cucumber and white lilac, initially making one think that this fragrance is only for Spring. However, the notes of white musk and cedar make it a decadent fragrance to wear at Holiday Time and all year long (100ml).
I hope you found something from here to treat yourself during the holiday season. Remember to take a deep breath, embrace the organized chaos and know you will have plenty of time in the January doldrums to make up for the rest you may have missed this month.
