Valentine’s Day (14th February) is a strange celebration because there are no rules. Experts say that “rituals and traditions are the emotional mortar of relationships.” We know this is true for birthdays and anniversaries. When your partner forgets your brithday, it’s the end of the world. When a wedding anniversary is forgotten, suspicious minds wonder about extra-marital distractions.
Despite the marketing efforts of high street retailers, not all couples make a big deal of Valentine’s Day. We may exchange cards or buy a box of chocolates but we know not to miss the ‘Big Ones’ like birthdays and anniversaries. The big winners are, of course, the chocolate and greeting card companies because they rely on volume sales.
This allows the opportunist lover to make an unexpected grand gesture with the help of Chopard, alchemist of the heart….
Lets start with the Happy Hearts – the symbol of Love and of Chopard.
Chopard co-president Caroline Scheufele’s attachment to the heart is deep: “If I were to associate Chopard with an object, it would be a Big Heart, because there is a family behind it.”
What better talisman to wear but this symbol of everlasting love?
The Happy Hearts collection was recently expanded to include new 18-carat rose gold earrings and rings comprising “kawaii” bouquets of hearts embellished with dancing diamonds, red hearts and hearts set with white mother-of-pearl or mother-of-pearl and diamonds.
The rings start at $7,120 rising to $12,300 with increasing diamonds:

Happy Diamonds Joaillerie Watch
Since the launch of the first Happy Diamonds watch in 1976, dancing diamonds have been merrily lighting up Chopard’s watch and jewellery creations. They have never stopped reinterpreting and reinventing the original watch.
This iconic timepiece is reimagined as a 28.60 mm diameter, 18-carat rose gold case set with diamonds, the Happy Diamonds Joaillerie watch ref.205369-5001 frames a dainty white textured mother-of-pearl dial upon which, five dancing diamonds move freely between two sapphire crystals.
Chopard Haute Joaillerie
The heart shape features in the latest Haute Joaillerie creations in keeping with their favourite gem shape. A precious assortment of 54 heart-shape diamonds totalling 62 carats were selected and assembled in descending order of size, starting with the largest placed in the centre, to form scintillating river of light. If one heart is a token of love, then 54 hearts will delight the heart of any woman in love.

Ice Cube Shoulder Bag $2,200
Decades ago, the geometical perfection and simplicity of a block of ice that inspired the Ice Cube watches and jewellery are reproduced in the eponymous leather goods collection. The two new members of the Ice Cube collection are black or metal-toned shoulder bags. Choosing box calfskin to clad the bags affords the glossy surface that reflects light like muti-faceted Ice Cube jewellery.
The leather is cut to ensure the best part of the hides are seen and the most luxurious lining used. The rose gold-plated clasp echoes the aesthetic codes of the Ice Cube jewellery line: tiny polished, sparkling cubes, closely aligned so as to multiply every ray of light.
The story-board envisions ladies with “a perfectly proportioned shoulder bag holding a joyful jumble of love notes and lipstick while keeping step with their busy schedule.”
We start with the usual suspects as Valentine’s Day gifts for men: a briefcase and cufflinks. Although we may harbour hopeful longings for a gold-plated Lamborghini or that albino tiger, we’re more likely to get a necktie or a pair of cufflinks!
Aesthetically consistent with the other products from this watchmaker-jeweller, Chopard introduces two new pieces for contemporary gentlemen. Constructed form the finest materials, they are designed to enrich the masculine wardrobe with essential accessories.
First up is a navy blue calfskin briefcase.
Chopard spin-doctors romantically describe how a loving woman can slip a tender letter amid important files inside. They may have a point: the large interior compartment and two side pockets offer ample opportunity for such a loving gesture. You may choose to carry this case by hand or on the shoulder using the optional leather shoulder strap.
Finally, as I implied, we must not forget the steel and black lacquer cufflinks ref.95014-0055 bearing Chopard’s initial to complement an outfit with discreet elegance. Even better if your name was Calvin or Charles…
Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Grigio Speciale $8,220
Chopard has sponsored the Mille Miglia rally for more than 30 years and co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele has participated along the Brescia-Roma-Brescia route of “the most beautiful race in the world”, as Enzo Ferrari loved to call it. In celebration, Chopard presented a sporty new model within its emblematic Mille Miglia collection: GTS Power Control Grigio Speziale.
Inspired by the Italian rally that Chopard acts as official timekeeper for, the new Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Grigio Speciale is issued in a 1,000-piece limited edition. In its eponymous special grey cladding, the timepiece is driven a Chopard movement: the 01.08-C calibre, and chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute).
With its “Rossa Corsa” red, grey and black details, its oversized numerals evoking a 1950s car dashboard and its Cordura fabric strap, this watch perpetuates the Classic Racing spirit.

This new version with a black dial and an 18-carat white gold case has a 65-hour power reserve and is chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute).
